Our regular feature returns with the ”War Horse” puppeteer
A Few of my Favourite Things is back and this week we chat to Emma Thornett, one of the puppeteers in War Horse, seen in the photo above playing Baby Joey.
So Emma, what is your favourite…
Film
Dances With Wolves. Beautiful cinematography, a heart wrenching story, lots of animals, my secret crush Kevin Costner and John Barry’s great score.
Place to hang out in London?
Along the Southbank. There’s always something interesting happening. I love cycling over Waterloo Bridge to get to it. Fantastic views and all walks of life!
Restaurant?
‘Dotori’ in Finsbury Park. Fabulous sushi and Korean fodder. Or ‘Kula Kula Sushi’ in Covent Garden for somewhere to go in between performances of War Horse.
Holiday Destination?
Malaysia – Penang Island. I swam with elephants! An unforgettable trip.
Play/Musical that you have seen?
Terry Pratchett’s Only You Can Save Mankind is the new British musical we’ve all been asking for – I saw a production of it at the Edinburgh Festival. Also, Punch Drunk’s The
Drowned Man was a mind blowing theatrical experience.
Theatre to visit?
The Globe. I love standing in the yard like the commoners would have.
Part of War Horse?
Joey gives a perfectly timed kick on the plough when Albert shouts at him for not trying hard enough. It is one of the many moments I like to watch every night from the wings and it never fails to make me smile!
War Horse continues at the New London Theatre.
