Steph Parry took over the role of Donna during the interval when another actress had to withdraw from the show
Steph Parry is standby for Dorothy Brock (currently played by Lulu) in the West End cast of 42nd Street at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, but previously covered the role of Donna in Mamma Mia! back in 2013. So when Caroline Deverill suffered a calf injury during the first act of Mamma Mia!, producers sent out an S.O.S and Parry was there to say I Do I Do I Do I Do I Do.
Talking to WhatsOnStage, Parry said: "I am a standby at 42nd Street and was just in my dressing room having dinner, carrots and hummus, if I had known a few minutes later I would have been kissing a boy as Donna in Mamma Mia! I might have rethought the hummus!
"The company manager called me and told me that the company manager of Mamma Mia! had called saying there was an emergency and that I had to go. I grabbed my things, ran round the corner, and I was whisked off to be put into costume!
"I really love Mamma Mia! and the role of Donna, so being able to sing those songs again and be in the show was something I was very happy to be a part of."
One minute eating carrots and hummus in my @42ndStreetLDN dressing room, the next I was sporting a pair of dungarees at @MammaMiaMusical – what a night!!!! Thank you so much for all your wonderful messages
