Elliott – whose stage credits include The History Boys and The Lord of the Flies - joins previously announced stars Richard Fleeshman, Jenna Russell and RSC regular Jonathan Slinger in the production, which is directed by Jamie Lloyd.
Further cast announced today are Chris Bennett, Alasdair Buchan, Karis Jack, Aaron Lee Lambert, Jeff Nicholson, Adam Pearce and Charlotte Scott. The cast also includes: Katie Bernstein, Cory English, Madeleine Harland, Rosanna Hyland, Julie Jupp, Mark Meadows, Joel Montague, Jo Napthine and Matthew Seadon-Young.
Richard Fleeshman, a previous WhatsOnStage Award winner for Ghost, will lead the Urinetown cast this afternoon in the production's first, sneak-peek public performance as the finale of this year's WhatsOnStage Awards Launch Party at London's Café de Paris. The company will perform "Run Freedom Run", from the Mark Hollman and Gret Kotis satirical musical comedy.
Debuted at the New York International Fringe Festival, Urinetown ran from 2001 to 2004 on Broadway, where it was nominated for ten Tony Awards, and won for Best Book, Best Score and Best Direction, adding to various gongs from the Outer Critics Circle, Lucille Lortel Awards, Obie and Drama League awards. Urinetown is set in a Gotham-like city of the future, where a hero leads the people in an uprising against private toilets.
The UK production is designed by Soutra Gilmour, with choreography by Ann Yee, lighting from Adam Silverman, sound by Terry Jardine and Nick Lidster for Autograph, musical supervision by Alan Williams, orchestrations by Bruce Coughlin and wig and hair design by Richard Mawbey. It's produced by Julian Stoneman Associates and The Araca Group.
