Casting has been announced for Cost of Living, which opens at the Hampstead Theatre in January.

Martyna Majok's Pulitzer Prize-winning 2016 play first ran at Williamstown Theatre Festival before transferring to New York City Center. It won two Lucille Lortel Awards in 2018.

It explores disability, race, class and wealth in the present day through the lens of two pairs of relationships between disabled and able persons. It makes its UK premiere at the north London venue, with direction by outgoing artistic director Edward Hall.

Adrian Lester (Company) will make his Hampstead Theatre debut in the role of Eddie, joined by Katy Sullivan who makes her UK stage debut as Ani, having originated the role in the award-winning off-Broadway production. They are joined by Emily Barber (Trouble in Mind) in the role of Jess and Jack Hunter (All You Need is LSD) in the role of John.

The show comes as part of Hall's final season at the venue, before he is replaced by new artistic director Roxana Silbert. The theatre will also launch a project to add 41 seats to the auditorium in its 60th year.
