Kelly Hunter and Patrick Drury star in ETT’s Ghosts
Kelly Hunter and Patrick Drury will star in English Touring Theatre’s forthcoming production of Ibsen’s Ghosts, which opens at the Rose Theatre Kingston in September before touring nationwide.
Ghosts marks Stephen Unwin‘s final production as artistic director of the Rose and the 21st anniversary ETT, the company he founded.
Designed by Simon Higlett, it will be inspired by the original Edvard Munch stage designs, which have not been used since 1906. The cast also features Florence Hall and Mark Quartley.
It will be the seventh Ibsen play Unwin has directed, and the second translation he written following The Lady from the Sea, which ran at the Rose in 2012.
Kelly Hunter (playing Mrs Alving) has previously worked with Unwin and ETT on A Doll’s House, in which she played Nora, and As you Like It. Her other theatre credits include Evita (Prince Edward Theatre), Cabaret (Strand Theatre and Theatre Mogador, Paris), Brel (Donmar Warehouse) and myriad productions with the National and RSC.
Patrick Drury (Pastor Manders) has previously worked with ETT on King Lear, Twelfth Night, Hamlet and Mother Courage. His many other stage credits include Democracy (Sheffield Crucible) and The Woman in Black (West End).
Mark Quartley’s (Oswald) theatre credits include Macbeth (Trafalgar Studios), Private Peaceful (West End and tour), Measure for Measure, Written on the Heart (RSC), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Shakespeare’s Globe) and The Tempest (Bath Theatre Royal).
Florence Hall (Regina) has appeared in Children of the Sun’ (National Theatre), An Incident at the Border (Finborough and Trafalgar Studios), Birdsong (Comedy Theatre), The Importance of Being Earnest (Manchester Library Theatre) and You May Go Now (Finborough).
Ghosts” runs at the Rose Theatre, Kingston from 25 September to 12 October (previews from 19 September), before visiting Salisbury Playhouse (15-19 October), Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford (5-9 November) York Theatre Royal (12-16 November), Watford Palace (19-23 November), Malvern Theatres (26-30 November), and Theatre Royal Brighton (3-7 December).
