Getting Here via Strange Places

Festival-goers have become used to site-specific productions; they’ve caught on in London too. Now Suffolk is on the move as well, in bars and museums, barns and town halls as well as theatres and arts centres.

Getting Here is a promenade performance written and directed by Ivan Cutting, designed by Charlie Cridlan and staged by Eastern Angles. It’s about migrants in East Anglia – Portuguese Caterina with José and also Polish Marta; you can see it on 29 and 30 June at the Peterborough Museum.

Then from 2 to 12 July it’s at the top of the Tudor merchant’s house which is now the waterfront bar Isaac’s before continuing the tour to 25 July in Wingfield, Haverhill, Thetford, Halesworth, Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth, Wivenhoe and Maldon. This is a completely different play from the company’s production of Return to Akenfield earlier this year, though it shares that show’s theme of people coming to terms with life in an unfamiliar environment.

Theatre-goers are warned that, because of the choice of locations, audience capacity is limited. After all, how many people (plus, of course, actors) can you squeeze into two small rooms and a corridor?
