Ground-breaking One Stop Premieres at Lighthouse

One Step, a new play written by award winning Bournemouth play-write Sasha Paul and presented by Lighthouse-based theatre company Dramatic Productions, will have its premiere at Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts from 26 – 30 April.

One Step is a bold, honest account of how a tragic accident can alter people’s lives; the victim, as well as those who love them. Matt, is a fun loving man who appears to have it all, until a motorbike accident results in the loss of his right leg.

The play is based on a true story, and the lead role is played by amputee actor Sean Gittins, who, as well as acting, works for Amputees in Action, training soldiers to save lives with tourniquet etc. He has been an inspiration for the piece. The play is not for the faint hearted but deals with a difficult subject in a sensitive way with a positive message. Because of some swearing and scenes of traumatic injury, it has an age restriction of 15.

Founded in 2007, by Bournemouth based actress, Sasha Paul, Dramatic Productions has assembled a group of actors, actresses, directors and writers that wish to push people’s imaginations, using largely Dorset based professional talent. They have already won an ‘UnLtd Millennium Award’ for the one act version of Someone Else’s Husband, also written by Sasha, and which is due to be performed with New York actors, off Broadway.

Sasha is proud to be working in association with Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts, and intend to preview all their new shows at the venue’s studio theatre space.

After its premiere at Lighthouse, One Step will embark on a tour, including military rehabilitation centres around the country. Dramatic Productions l also offer questions and answers to audiences after their show, aiming to help change people’s attitude towards amputees. There are too many victims of amputation today and we need to help rebuild their lives.
