Kate Winslet may show up yet at boyfriend Sam Mendes' Donmar Warehouse before he leaves the theatre at the end of next year. However, she wouldn't be directed by him. She looks an increasingly likely candidate to star in the West End production of John Madden's production of David Auburn's Pulitzer Prize-winning Proof, which will run at the Donmar from 9 May to 15 June 2002. The play concerns a young woman who fears she may have inherited the mental illness that plagued her late father, a renowned mathematician. Rachel Weisz, Gwyneth Paltrow, Victoria Hamilton and Helena Bonham-Carter have also been mentioned in connection with the lead role, performed originally on Broadway by American actress Mary Louise Parker. If cast, the production would mark Winslet's London stage debut.
