Last night’s preview of Trevor Nunn’s musical adaptation of the Gershwins’ classic jazz opera Porgy and Bess came to an abrupt halt after the interval when the Act Two opener ended with a member of the 40-strong ensemble taking a nasty tumble. The performance stopped for more than an hour while an ambulance was called to take Hannah Levane, who dislocated her knee during a dance misstep, to hospital. A show spokesperson told Whatsonstage.com this morning that Levane is now recovering nicely. It’s not exactly a broken leg but, nevertheless, perhaps it bodes well for tomorrow’s press performance at the West End’s Savoy Theatre, where Clarke Peters and Nicola Hughes take the title roles. It’s all part of the live experience.
