With Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller alternating in the roles of Victor Frankenstein and his Creature in Danny Boyle’s new production of Frankenstein, critics are in the unusual situation of having to attend successive press nights - of the same play – at the National Theatre. Last night they had Miller as the Creature and tonight (23 February 2011) they’re heading back to see Cumberbatch’s take on the role – which includes an extended nude scene – with all reviews embargoed until tomorrow. Theatregoers can check the casting configuration they’ll get when they attend on the NT website. And if they want to see the other version, but can’t get back to the South Bank, they can tune into the NT Live airing of the production, which for the first time, will broadcast two performances of a production: with Cumberbatch as the Creature on 17 March, and Miller as the Creature on 24 March.
