Beautiful Burnout revived for UK tour

Beautiful Burnout, the award-winning show by Frantic Assembly and the National Theatre of Scotland, will be revived this autumn.

The show, which received a Fringe First and universal critical acclaim when it premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2010, will open at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth on 3 October before touring to Warwick, London, Cardiff, Dundee, Leeds, Newcastle, Southampton and Hull. The final performance of the tour will be at Hull Truck Theatre on 1 December.

This is the first UK revival of Bryony Lavery's boxing drama, which features the music of Underworld. The show toured the UK after its Edinburgh run in 2010 and has since played in America, Australia and New Zealand.

The revival is one of a trio of collaborations taking place between Frantic Assembly and three of the UK's national theatres this year. Little Dogs, a co-production with National Theatre Wales opened this week in Swansea, while The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, on which Frantic artistic directors Scott Graham and Steven Hoggett are movement directors, opens in July. The pair are also represented in the Cultural Olympiad, having choreographed the Damon Albarn opera Dr Dee, which will play at the ENO as part of the London 2012 Festival in June following its launch at the Manchester International Festival in the summer of 2011.

Along with news of the revival of Beautiful Burnout, Frantic announced that Ignition, the company's training project for young men, has received funding of almost £90,000 from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. The company will deliver free taster sessions and workshop auditions across the UK in September and October for young men aged 16-20. Those selected will take part in an accredited five-day residency in London which will culminate in a public performance. Over 400 young men have taken part in Ignition activities since its launch in 2008, with 70 being selected to take part in the intensive productions.
