Rhinestone Mondays Halts Tour in Newcastle, 22 Oct

Date: 10 October 2011

Following the recent announcement that Rhinestone Mondays had cancelled the 2012 dates in its national tour, the show's producers have today (10 October 2011) announced the Country & Western compilation musical comedy will play its final performance on 22 October 2011 at the Newcastle Theatre Royal.

The revised tour dates had scheduled the show to run through to 26 November 2011 touring to Dartford, Coventry, Dundee, Dublin and Wimbledon.

Rhinestone Mondays is produced by Ian Liston, Richard Ireson, and Paul Tyrer and Jamie Clark for The Booking Office, in a co-production with the Mercury Theatre, Colchester.

In a press statement the show's producers said: "We are devastated at having to take the decision to bring the tour of Rhinestone Mondays to a premature end, especially as we have such a wonderful cast and creative team who have given this show 1000% every night, and audiences who have enthusiastically embraced us and taken us to their hearts.

"We have fought hard to keep us from this point but despite our best efforts, we recognise that a new show is always a risk and unfortunately we are beginning to see that the prevailing economic conditions mean that people don’t always have the ability or economic confidence to support new work as they once might have done."

In the show former Steps stars Faye Tozer and Ian Watkins star alongside EastendersShaun Williamson and Lyn Paul (taking a break from 13 years of playing Mrs Johnstone in Blood Brothers) as members of the Warbleswick “Monday Night All Star Line Dancing Club” who fight, feud and fall in and out of love.

Written by Joe Graham and directed by Phil Wilmott, Rhinestone Mondays features a slew of Country hits including Billy Ray Cyrus’ “These Boots Are Made for Walking”, Patsy Cline’s “Crazy”, Tammy Wynette’s “Stand by Your Man”, Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire”, Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Achy Breaky Heart”, Roy Rodgers’ “Happy Trails” and Glen Campbell’s “Rhinestone Cowboy”.
