Plays Cast: McGann in No Expense, Lulu, Punch

Joe McGann will lead the cast of No Expense Spared, a new comedy by Richard Stirling about the MPs expenses scandal, which premieres at Jermyn Street Theatre from 25 May to 26 June 2010.

McGann, whose previous stage credits include the Donmar's Guys and Dolls and Tom Dick and Harry in the West End (alongside his brothers Mark and Stephen), will star alongside: Lysette Anthony, Susan Kyd, Joanna McCallum, Neil Ditt and Lisa Armytage, in a production directed by James Robert Carson and designed by Katie Lias.

The Member of Parliament played by McGann is a Junior Minister in a new coalition Government. Lysette Anthony plays his dizzy wife who lands him in very deep water. Why is the MP suddenly so worried? Why does his secretary act so strangely? And how have his wife’s expenses ended up in the wrong hands?

No Expense Spared is produced by Evergreen Theatrical Productions Ltd in association with Jermyn Street Theatre.

The full cast has been announced for Anna Ledwich’s new staging of Frank Wedekind’s Lulu, which runs at the Gate Theatre from 16 June to 10 July 2010 (previews from 10 June).

The provocative play follows the fortunes and ultimate tragedy of a young woman, a femme-fatale, who skips from one husband to the next, leaving a trail of broken hearts and broken bodies in her wake.

The cast is: Sean Campion as Schoning, Michael Colgan as Schwartz, Paul Copley as Dr Goll/Schigolch, Caroline Faber as Countess Geschwitz, Jack Gordon as Alwa and Sinead Matthews as Lulu.

Daniel Kaluuya and Anthony Welsh will be joined by Gary Beadle, Trevor Laird, Nigel Lyndsey, Jason Maza and Sarah Ridgeway in the premiere of Roy Williams' Sucker Punch, which opens in the reconfigured Royal Court Theatre Downstairs on 18 June (previews from 11 June).

Directed by Sacha Wares, the play looks back on “what I was like to be young and Black in the 80s” through the prism of amateur boxing, and runs until 24 July 2010 (to see the layout of the reconfigured auditorium, see http://twurl.nl/47ukku).
