Sadler’s Wells Announces Spring 2010 Season

Sadler’s Wells Announces Spring 2010 Season

Date: 19 November 2009

Sadler’s Wells has announced its spring/summer 2010 season which begins in January and runs until the end of August.

The programme includes almost 50 dance events cross four venues, including shows at Sadler’s Wells itself, plus the Lilian Baylis Studio, the Peacock Theatre and the London Coliseum. The season features a broad range of performers, from small scale independent artists to larger companies, with a strong international mix, including troupes from Japan, India, and Canadian, plus a large contingent of Hispanic and Latin American dance, including Ballet Nacional de Cuba, Havana Rakatan, the seventh annual Flamenco Festival, Danza Contemporanea de Cuba, Ballet Nacional de España, Paco Pena, Tanguera, Aracaladanza, and the Brazilian piece A Linha Curva which Rambert includes when it visits in May.

Also in May, is the Breakin’ Convention festival of hip-hop which returns for its seventh successive year. The popular event attracts world-class performers and will tour later in the year. Another show with broad appeal is The Merchants of Bollywood, a musical extravaganza new to the UK.

As well as the these populist visitors, the season includes more experimental work, including the Sadler’s Wells/Young Vic production of Daniel Kramer and Frauke Requardt’s Pictures from an Exhibition, plus new work from Hofesh Shechter and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Croatian-born performance artist Ivana Müller, and Canadian Marie Chouinard. Education and outreach work is spot lit in the Sadler’s Wells Connect Festival.

At the London Coliseum, the Sadler’s Wells Spring Dance season includes a visit from Birmingham Royal Ballet and the much-awaited return of Mark Morris’ L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato with live music from ENO’s Orchestra and soloists. The piece is widely regarded as a modern classic, and it rapidly sold out on its last visit to the Coliseum in June 2000.
