Press Release

Monday 12 October 2009

STUDIO PRODUCTIONS TO PRODUCE
AWARD WINNING MADNESS MUSICAL

"OUR HOUSE"

Studio 7 Productions are delighted to announce they have acquired a licence to produce the award-winning musical OUR HOUSE.

The show won Best Musical at the 2003 Laurence Olivier Awards and has only just been released for amateur groups. As such, Studio 7 will become one of the first groups to perform the show outside of the original West End Show at the Cambridge Theatre and the professional UK tour.

The backbone to the musical is of course the music of Madness and it includes all their best known numbers which are interwoven with an intelligent narrative written by Tim Firth, telling the story of a modern-day love set on the streets of London. It follows two different possible courses in the life of a young man, Joe, following his involvement in petty crime.

The show includes the classic numbers "My Girl" • "Baggy Trousers" • "Embarrassment" • "It Must Be Love" • "House of Fun" • "Driving in My Car" • "Our House" • "Tomorrow's (Just Another Day)" and many more....

The Studio 7 Production will be staged at the Arthur Cotterell Theatre, Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey, a modern theatre space with a seating capacity of 220. Show dates are 13-17 April 2010.

The opening meeting will be held at the beginning of November, with auditions scheduled for mid-late November. Rehearsal nights will be Thursdays in the Kingston/Surbiton area with some additional rehearsals on Sundays closer to the production.

Studio 7 director David Stewart said: "I was transfixed by this show the first time I saw it in London and returned many, many times. As well as the superb music - the story works well on many levels and the sheer energy of the cast was sensational. It's a great honour and challenge to produce the show as one of the first groups in the country - and we are greatly looking forward to rehearsals starting. There are plenty of opportunities for singers, dancers and actors of all ages."

Studio 7 are currently looking to recruit a musical director and choreographer(s) for the production and anyone interested is encouraged to get in touch as soon as possible.

Studio 7 are a non-profit making organisation formed in 2008 for their acclaimed debut production of Tell Me On A Sunday / Rainy Days and Mondays. The company aims to produce challenging musical theatre with professional standards in every aspect of the production.

If you are interested in taking part in OUR HOUSE, either as cast or in any production capacity please join our Facebook group "Studio 7 Productions" or e-mail: ourhousemusical@googlemail.com

Blimey, that was quick of you. It was only released last week.
I wouldn't say a word that could be reckoned as injurious,
But to find a mother younger than her son is very curious,
And that's the kind of mother that is usually spurious.

Hi Michael

Fell in love with this show when I first saw it - so made it a priority to get the application in early and Weinbergers have turned it around very speedily.

Best Wishes
David

I never got to see the show but I have the DVD-I am sure one of the cast of it was sitting near me at the Scott Alan concert on Sunday

I will keep an eye out for when the tickets go on sale.
I know I could be a lion tamer,

Probably. Michael Jibson who played Joe Casey is Caroline Sheen's boyfriend.

Our House totally trans-fixed me as well the first time I saw it, then I saw the tour last year as well.
I'm not too sure about the re-writing, I don't think it really enhanced the show, but there we go, we are stuck with it as it is.
My group have just secured the rights to it as well, we're not producing it for 2 years though, lots of things planned before then, but I just want to get on with it now!
Definitely the best show I've seen for ages, there aren't many that capture my imagination like this one.
Wish I was near Kingston - I would audition for that production as well, but Scotland is a bit far to commute!
Good luck with the production.

Thanks guest_robbie

For what it's worth I agree re: the re-write - I am not sure a single change enhanced the show but as I am sure you know the released version bears closest parallel with the touring production.

I really like NW5 - but then I also really liked Sarah' Song too blink.gif

We'll do our best with it - I think 90% of Our House is about energy and enthusiasm which they had in abbundance in the original show at the Cambridge.

I'll try and post regular updates on here on the progress.

Best Wishes
David

Updates would be great David, it will be interesting to hear of your challenges, problems, anything we haven't thought of. I will actually try and come down for the show, I don't know of any other amateur productions planned for up this way yet.
I travel down to the London area on business regularly.
All the best.

That's great Robbie - Kingston is only 20-25 minutes out of London Waterloo. You may get the award for the furthest travelling audience member and a free interval drink !
