Was wondering what other plays are doing the rounds (ideally in East Anglia) that are of the same style as the excellent Coram Boy, which I saw at the Minack Theatre in Cornwall over the summer?

I'd love to watch more theatre, amateur or professional but have had a couple of bad experiences. I didn't enjoy 'The Woman in Black' or 'The Hypochondriac' recently.

Coram Boy was a gripping tale with wit, charm and emotion. I'd love to see more plays like this. I also liked the more classic theatre approach using sheets as a prop for the sea in one scene, for example.

Any other plays of this ilk that could be recommended would be greatly appreciated.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello,

I managed to catch that production of Coram Boy on one of its preview performances in someone's garden in Hertfordshire before it went down to the Minack. I loved the National Theatre version of it so much, and the story is still as direct and involving (and able to tap some pretty strong emotions) in other productions too.

I would recommend the other National Theatre Christmas shows. In London (so take the train down to Liverpool Street - I did for a few years).

War Horse is currently running in the West Endat the New London Theatre. And Nation will be on at the National Theatre later on this year - with the same director as the original production of Coram Boy.
I wouldn't say a word that could be reckoned as injurious,
But to find a mother younger than her son is very curious,
And that's the kind of mother that is usually spurious.
