Well that's at least one positive review. I'm keen for this to get good write-ups as I want to see Lesley Sharp on stage for the first time.
It said on the Twitter for this show that the first preview got an 8 minute standing ovation. Really? 8 minutes? How can that be? Are they counting the time it takes for the audience to leave the theatre when of course they have to be on their feet?

I went to the matinee on 10 October and I thought it was superb. It was wonderfully acted all round, and Diana Vickers is a revelation. What a talent. When she sang at the end in her own voice, I was moved.

It's also very funny, Mari gets some great comic line but her overweight friend Sadie who says very little at all, steals the laughs.

Go, go, go....

I saw this last night and on the whole was impressed. I've only ever seen the movie before, so wasn't sure what to expect from the play. The set is fantastic and they've obviously spent a fair bit of money on it. Lesley Sharp is amazing as LV's Mum. Her over the top physicality was perfect imo. Likewise Marc Warren was perfectly cast and gave a great performance.

Diana Vicker's was ok, but I had no idea who half the people she was impersonating were supposed to be. Was just someone singing in funny voices. Cilla Black and Shirley Bassey sounded nothing like them. She also didn't really add any depth to the character, like Jane Horrock's does in the movie. She just looked like a sulky teenager who could sing a bit.

The ending was awful too. Why it didn't end with the Mum collapsing outside the house I don't know. That seemed like the perfect ending for the show. But they tack on this stupid rubbish in the club so LV can sing some badly written pop song that has nothing to do with the show at all. Totaly wrong I thought after so much good before.

It got great reviews from all the papers from the Telegraph to the Guardian via the Stage after its press night last monday . The only person who seemed not to like it was someone from the Independant who was a stranger to known logic. Reports are its getting standing ovations all over the place - it got another when I saw it on Saturday.
