Well, I wish the tour next year the very best of luck. It's such a well-written show, and so many moments in it that really struck me, even after having already done our six performances.
I don't think there's a negative thought (and barely a minor key) in the first two numbers, establishing the image of a bucolic, rural pace of life. I loved the drama of Lonely Room, and I loved the music right at the end of Act 1 as Laurey wakes up from the dream, and realises that the decision she will be taking tonight will be a major one affecting the rest of her life, and won't just be any ordinary dance. The auction scene is brilliantly written too, going from the comedy of Will and Ali Hakim to the escalating drama between Jud and Curly. And very movingly (something that you won't see onstage), the stage direction in the script says that Larey wears her mother's wedding dress in act 2 scene 3 - I think that's the only mention I could spot of Laruey's parents.
But it was a lot of fun too. The cast made a lot of fun of my inability to say " 'twouldn't be proper" without sounding Irish. And during the chorus of "Oklahoma" the number, Laurey's bridesmaids kept on throwing rice at just when we had our mouths open on "and when we saaaaaaaay. Yeow, ay-yip-ay-oh-ee-yaaaaaaaaaay."
I wouldn't say a word that could be reckoned as injurious,
But to find a mother younger than her son is very curious,
And that's the kind of mother that is usually spurious.
