So what we sort-of know for the 2011 Bridge Project is that it will be two plays directed by Sam Mendes, starring Kevin Spacey. We know they have to be main stage pieces with a range of parts for notable UK/USA actors. We know that they will not be by Shakespeare or Chekov but let's assume they will be "classics".

So, what should they be ?

How about:

Oedipus Rex (Sophocles)
An Enemy of the People (Ibsen)

or

Death of a Salesman (Miller)
John Gabriel Borkmann (Ibsen)

I'd like to see our Kev in another American classic.

Um, I've missed something - how do we know they won't be by Shakespeare or Chekhov?

It was reported last weekend - an interview with Mendes - can't recall the source.

Oh. I'm disappointed. I'll hope for Ibsen instead then. Sorry Lynette, I would much rather see Spacey in a European classic than another American one. Something like a Chekhov or an Ibsen or a Strindberg (think he's done Ibsen before, years ago, but I could be wrong).
