I have to totally disagree with you on Leanne Dobinson. I have seen 3 different Cosettes and she was by far the best. I wasn't expecting much as she was a reality show type and I thought she had been cast as a name but she had a really nice and strong voice and acted very well. Compared to Gina Beck, who I saw previously, she was 100 times better (Gina was weak.) I remember commenting at the time I saw this cast that I thought Leanne had the voice to be Christine in Phantom and it turns out Gina is going to be - I hope she has improved but I think I will be avoiding Phantom for a year or so.
I do agree that Earl Carpenter, Drew Sarich and Nancy Sullivan were good (Earl in particular was amazing) but Jon Robyns' portrayal of Marius was not good - no charisma or stage presence but a good voice. Nancy was good but I do think Sabrina Aloueche was much stronger.

i agree with you on leanne- i think she is by far the best cosette les mis has had for a few years. she's very youthful in appearance and her voice is very sweet yet strong.
Sabrina was the best eponine too, hope she goes back to the part one day, maybe for fantine?
Nancy is very good too- but again not as good as sabrina.

I also agree, I have seen Les mis numerous times and thought leanne's portrayal to be excellent, to a point of one off the best I have seen. She has such a strong voice - and crystal clear on the top notes (not shrieky at all). I was not expecting much of her as coming form a reality show. Be she definetly impressed me. Wasnt so impressed with Jon Robyns, did not feel he had any stage presence. Nancy Sullivan was ok but to be honest did'nt move me in her songs at all - Earl and Drew were brill.

I really like LD's Cosette - it's a character I have yawned over in past casts but she brings the role to life for me. Love her voice, it's gorgeous in the upper registers. (And in the lower.) She's far and away the best Cosette I've seen. She even has chemistry with that total wet blanket Marius, which is stellar acting as far as I'm concerned...(nothing against Jon Robyns, I just don't see much depth in the character). I particularly like the minute or two where she and Eponine recognize each other through the gate - very well done - and she plays her "rebellion" against Valjean beautifully.

(IMHO of course.)

I went on opening night and Leanne surprised the heck out of me. Her voice was perfect and her acting was fine.

Agree on all the comments re Earl Drew Nancy and Jon. Jon seemed to dry on Empty CHairs and I assumed it was just nerves. Jon has a brilliant voice.

Allyson Brown seemed to be the weak link.

i saw les mis again a few weeks ago and thought that leanne has improved since the last time saw and was much better also i do agree about sabrina aloueche she is amazing and was amazing as eponine. she by far is my fav in that role. i also disagree totally about your view on gina beck because i saw her in les mis and was very good but in phantom she is amazing. i would recommend you go see her because she has got better since les mis.

I must say, leanne dobinson portrayal of cosette is the best I have seen. Her voice was so youthfull and clear, especially on the top notes. the character of cosette does not hold much depth, but she is one of the few that has given her some life, where you actually care about her. I would love to see her play christine in Phantom, i think she would be great in that role.

Does anyone know what Leanne is up to now and if she has any plans to return to the West End stage?
