Just wondering if anyone called in sick/booked a day off/skipped uni/was just lucky enough to be free yesterday to actually carry a watermelon to the Aldwych? Alas, I had to work. Also, who knew there were national days for fruit? Ever so strange......

Could You ‘Carry a Watermelon’ to Dirty Dancing???
Date: 8 May 2008

Fans of Dirty Dancing will know that “Nobody puts Baby in a corner” isn’t the only classic line from the 1987 film. “I carried a watermelon?!” – uttered by Baby when she first encounters sexy dance teacher Johnny Castle at a private staff party to which she, um, carried a watermelon – is right up there too. And if you can carry a watermelon to the Aldwych Theatre, you may be able to see the West End musical based on the film for free.

To celebrate the UK’s first-ever National Watermelon Day this summer, producers of Dirty Dancing have issued a challenge to fans. The first 20 people to carry a watermelon to the Aldwych - where the screen-to-stager has been selling out since it opened in October 2006 - at 10.00am on National Watermelon Day (Monday 4 August 2008) will win a free pair of top-price tickets to see the show that night. The race is on!

sadly not, but a friend of mine was at the show by coincidence yesterday and was walking home after when she noticed a bunch of people at the stage door getting watermelons autographed.

god knows what'll happen when they start to go off. nice.
whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should

That's fabulous, wish I'd seen it...I guess a signed melon is cool if you take a pic of it....when it rots though, must be a little sad lol.

Properly kept, soft fruit dries out instead of going off. Many years ago at work we put a banana in the ceiling cavity. It didn't rot as we'd expected, but shrank and blackened. After about a year we varnished it, put it on a plaque, and gave it to somebody as a leaving present.
In my opinion anyone interested in improving himself should not rule out becoming pure energy.

Wow...there's an original present. The autographs wouldn't still show through though would they?

It almost sounds like your planning on drying out a signed melon.....
Personally, if I had carried a melon to the Aldwych and the oppertunity arose to get autographs I don't think the melon would strike me as first choice thing to get signed. There were probably stacks of programmes a few feet away!

I guess the novelty value of a signed dirty dancing watermelon is a pretty powerful lure.

Lol, it would be a bit late if I was. I do love the idea, dunno if I'd ever be bothered enough to lug a watermelon around all day if I'd done it though lol. laugh.gif
