Nine - The Musical will be filming at Shepperton Studios from September 2008 (007 Stage) and on location in Rome in January 2009.
The film will star: Marion Cotillard, Penélope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren, Daniel Day-Lewis, Dame Judi Dench and Kate Hudson.
Directed by: Rob Marshall (Chicago - Film, Memoirs of a Geisha)
Produced by: Harvey and Bob Weinstein

Anyone see the last UK production? (Donmar)

Fergie from The Black Eyed Peas has joined the cast. The cast sounds great but Rob Marshall ruined Chicago so I don't know if I'd want to see another of his movies (although I've never seen Nine).

I guess that's an opinion... I thought the film of Chicago was one of the best translations from stage to screen yet. biggrin.gif

And apparently, er, Fergie is also going to be in it.
He used to call me — Blue Roses.

They lost half a dozen songs from the score, all the humour from the stage show and the choreography wasn't a patch on the stage choreography. Fortunately having not seen Nine I won't know if Rob Marshall ruins it as well.

Nine is a great piece of theatre that needs delicate and sympathetic handling. The text is intelligent and the songs sophisticated so not sure who they think in todays audience of under 25's will turn out for it.

Rob Marshall is a talentless choregrapher who became a talentless director who ruined a great piece of theatre by filming "Chicago". Next they let him loose on filming a great book "Memoirs of a Geisha" . Same deal - wrecked it. So my hopes for "Nine" are not high - great shame cos in the right hands it could be magnificent.

I loved the film Memoirs of a Geisha! (But to be honest never read the book). I also loved the film of Chicago, yes different from the stage production but a very good film in it's own right.

Sounds like "Tall Poppy Syndrome" to me. Yes, Rob Marshall used to be a Choreographer, now he directs Multi Million Pound Star Studded Hollywood Blockbusters and good luck to him!

I didn't post this topic so bitter little people could start slagging off the director. I posted this topic because I wanted to let people know it will be filming in London and because I genuinely wanted to hear peoples views on the musical "Nine".

What's with all the negativity? biggrin.gif

The rights holders for the movie didn't have the rights to the current revival of the production which is the reason you didn't see the same choreography and ironically helped the movie work as a movie rather than as carbon copy of a stage show (eg The Producers).
