I've just watched the DVD of the broadway version of this, with a huge epic set by robin wagner, and julie barely off the stage giving everything. Crikey no wonder she had problems after a long run of this. But I just cannot imagine Raquel Welch in the role....I tried but I just can't see here dancing like that, or playing the comedy, let singing with those notes. Did anyone manage to see this show, and with Raquel in it.
Shame it had never made it over here, though I gather there was a small scale production. Who do you think we would cast in the quintet of lead roles. I much prefer this show to La Cage. It's much more honest about the confusing relationships and about sex than La Cage - I find that show all a bit too manipulative and brash. La Cage's plea for tolerance is laid on heavier than the usual Cagelles' make up where as V/V has much more warmth and fun and heart. I'd love to see it over here. It went out on tour didn't it, and I think Julie A did the pre Broadway but who took it on the road? must have been scaled down somewhat. #2 Guest_Guest_JIJane_*_*Posted 30 March 2008 - 07:24 PM I've just watched the DVD of the broadway version of this, with a huge epic set by robin wagner, and julie barely off the stage giving everything. It did make it over here in the mid 90's - with Julie and then Liza Minelli taking over. A special song was then written and put in the show jut for her called "Who can I tell". I like bits and part of Victor Victoria (although I prefer the film version) but Cage is really a much better show altogether I believe. The stage version on Broadway was so so (it flopped though due to so many reasons) and some of the leads were wonderful (Rachel York particularly as Norma stole the show for me) - but Julie should have never done it. It killed her voice completely. #3 Guest_phantom82_*Posted 31 March 2008 - 11:47 AM It did make it over here in the mid 90's - with Julie and then Liza Minelli taking over. There has never been a "full" production of the show here - and certainly not featuring Julie Andrews OR Liza - Liza was Julies replacement on Broadway... for a short time!!!
