So book a flight and a hotel. So it's very safe these days. So it will also be very cold at Christmas time. The lights in Madison Avenue are beautiful.
Ooh, that Bernadette Shaw - what a chatterbox!

It's fun at Christmas time with the lights but it's also very crowded. I just stay away from the theatre district and the midtown shopping district then because the crowds drive me nuts. The hotels are extremely expensive the week before Christmas and the week between Christmas and New Year, even with the exchange rate being what it is. Also, most Broadway shows sell out, the discount offers often have black outs for those two weeks, and the offerings at TKTS aren't as good as usual with extra long lines. If you go the first week of January, after the New Years holiday is over, the decorations will still be up in the stores but the hotel rates will be down and you can get much better deals on the shows. Unless money is no object for you or you have someone to stay with, I'd think twice about the Christmas weeks.

New York is amazing at Christmas time. Just flying into LaGuardia Airport is a show of lights in itself!
Staying in any of the Hotels New York has to offer will be a thrill. You will be amazed how festive NYC is at this time. Enjoy
