Dame Edna Everage's alter ego, Barry Humphries, is to join Denise Van Outen and John Barrowman as a judge on "I'd Do Anything". Humphries played Mr Sowerberry in the original London production and recreated the role on Broadway. He's also starred as Fagin twice (including the 1994 revival).

I'm surprised he never played the Child Catcher in Chitty.

I saw him in London Palladium production of Oliver - thought he was truly awful. Kept slipping into Edna - totally detracted from the show (and I am a great fan of Eda!) and was completely out of place. Can't believe he is to judge!!

Here's a clue! They've all starred in West End musicals. I think that probably qualifies them (especially the one who's starred in the show that he's judging performances for).

Humphries' biography describes the trauma of understudying Ron Moody for two years (or so) and never going on, not once, in London, but having to rehearse as Fagin with endless sets of new children. What a nightmare!
Ooh, that Bernadette Shaw - what a chatterbox!

I believe that Cameron Mackintosh was originally going to be a judge, not in the back ground. That would have been a much better choice. CM understandably keeps a low profile but I'd like to see more of him. Much better qualified for the job as well.

Vocal coach Zoe Tyler has been dropped from the panel of judges this year. The judges will solely comprise John Barrowman, Denise Van Outen and Barry Humphries. ALW will reprise his position as the decision maker. Cameron MacIntosh will keep an eye on things but will appear in the semi-final and final.
