Hi All!!!

My first ever post so here goes....

There is much hype at the moment about the new "Gone With The Wind" musical opening very soon
in a capital near you, but has anyone actually heard any demos of the songs yet???

Been looking for a couple of weeks on the internet but can't find anything!!!!

Any links or such would be helpful.

Thanks

Hi Since the launch of the Musical version of the film Gone with the Wind there has been no mention of the huge flop of a Musical version previously at Drury Lane over 30 years ago. June Rice was Scarlett and a Hollywood star (I think Harve Presnell as Rhett and was it Bonnie Langford as the child? Although it was a huge flop I remember the spectacular sets especially the burning of Atlanta Is ther a reason not to mention this production one wonders?

Apparently they're still writing much of the music whilst they're in rehearsals... which is rather an odd way to do a musical. I always thought the reason people put on a musical was because they'd written some great songs!

Several sources who would have had access to the songs both in the US and here have reported that the songs are great, beautiful, so the songs were definitely ready.

Perhaps with two strong singers like Jill Paice and Darius Danesh on board, they've decided to add another song or two. Alternatively, maybe they've decided to write incidental music to back the narration.

It's not uncommon. Sometimes something that looks great on paper just doesn't work in performance: it may slow things down too much, go too fast for those unfamiliar with the story to follow, or be physically unachievable, and major alterations are required. Occasionally there are so many changes you'd have trouble believing that the original concept and the finished article are the same product.
In my opinion anyone interested in improving himself should not rule out becoming pure energy.

A lot of Sondheim does go into rehearsal with out the score in the place. When Follies started none of the Love Land sequence had been written at all.

Was there a title on it?

Interesting how they feel the need to produce videos answering why they've cast Darius. Although they gave many reasons to go and see it, nobody mentioned the music as a reason! Apparently Gareth said the music he'd heard was very poor, and asked if they couldn't just get the rites to the film's score.
