This production does not seem to know whether it wants to be a pantomine or a piece of musical theatre. Far too many topical jokes have been inserted into this production and many stand out like a sore thumb. The musical has enough humour in its composition not to need references to text messaging and Northern Rock to sell the show to the audience.
Great cast led by Tom Bradley who if you read the posters was in ITV's Grease is the word. I haven't seen this programme so could not compare his TV with his stage persona but he is very commanding in the role and a strong voice. Maybe a few tap dances lessons are needed though.
I did feel sorry for the kid who had his fruit pastels nicked by one of the cast during the interval and shared out amongst the audience.
Entertaining show and worth seeing but I have seen Godspell done a lot better.
