I saw Spamalot this week and hated it (posting my specific thoughts as a User Review). I understood most of the references but there was one song called Find Your Grail that seemed to be taking the rise out of something else, and I wasn't sure what. The rest of the audience seemed to get the joke but it went over my head. Can anyone enlighten me?

Theres the bit where they are dancing in slow motion with strobe lights, that's meant to be mocking the battle in Les Mis, and then of course theres the rising bit at the end which takes the piss out of defying gravity from Wicked.

Gotta agree awful show, not funny in the least. Not as clever as it thinks it is and is very smug.

Takes the piss out of all the shows it isn't quite strong enough to pull the spoofs off because the real things are 100% better. WOS review is 100% spot on about this.

Goes to prove that Spam is like Marmite - you love it or hate it!

I've interpreted "Find Your Grail" as a dig at Mariah Carey-style divas, vocalising all over the place... I can't think of a musical in particular that it is spoofing, just the genre.

Thanks for these.

The tune for Find Your Grail reminds me a bit of the TV advert with the frog that has weeds in his lawn but that wasn't what they were seeking to mock.

Very clever Belle - maybe you should give those ingriedients to someone on Ready, Steady, Cook!

I'd also agree that the shows it takes the piss out of are much much better Spamalot itself.

I agree...I wasn't a fan of this show either when I saw it. And I am a big Monty Python fan. I found the show quite boring and confusing to the point that it was just utterly pointless

I agree that the musicals it takes the piss out of are better than the actual show, but Spamalot is ment to be light-hearted and I think it's directed at people who wouldn't normally go to musicals but like Monty Python, and I guess there are a few of those in the audience.

Yeah, it's a duff show that was saved by Curry and Russell Beale and without anyone like to squeeze something out of it, it's a dodo.
