It seems that it has been confirmed that Summer Strallen will take over from Connie Fisher as Maria in the Sound of Music. Another triumph for the RUG publicity machine.

Yes, it's true, from 25 February 2008.
However, reports are that the show's lease of life will also be up by the end of the year, with the latest plans for put Oliver! there, though I can't see that happening to be honest - Prince Edward would be my venue of choice, or possibly the Novello (though it's possibly too small if they're mounting the 1994 production again) or Drury Lane, though it's not one of Cameron's - didn't stop him putting Miss Saigon, Witches and My Fair Lady there though...

I doubt Oliver will go back into the Palladium, and I'd be surprised if Sound of Music shut this year. I think there's life in that production yet.
I won't be called a baggage!

This might make me want to see SOM she was amazing in Drowsy.

Have you heard the hollyoaks plot-age
Playbill.com
"Instead of a reality television talent show, Strallen has been appearing in the TV series "Hollyoaks" in which she plays an aspiring actress. Later this month, the plot will see Lloyd Webber appear as himself for three episodes during which he "discovers" Strallen's character (called Summer Shaw) and casts her as the lead in The Sound of Music."

Interesting to say the least!

I wonder ...... It'll be EXTREMELY interesting to see what will happen to this production when Connie Fisher leaves.

I quite agree. I will definitely be tempted to go and see it if Summer takes the lead role, whereas nothing would have tempted me whilst Connie was there.

I like Connie Fisher. I think she filled the role of Maria very well. I haven't heard of Summer before but I have looked her up now and she has good write ups. I will watch out for her with interest.

Having seen both I know which one I think is better and know may others who agree.

I look forward to seeing summer in the role

I have seen both Aoife and Connie in the role and Aoife played and sung the part so much better, but I might have seen Connie on an off night [although I hear she has had a few of those!].

I also believe that Aoife will stay on as the alternate with Summer, as I am sure ALW knows she is a bankable and a very successful Maria [from seeing the SOM review page]. And I don't think ALW would want Aoife to leave at the same time as Connie.

However I do think I will pop along once again, just to compare Summer to Connie, although she had better be good to keep Aoife off the stage!
