La fille du régiment: BBC Four, 30 December, 7.30pm
A broadcast of the celebrated Royal Opera production featuring Natalie Dessay and Juan Diego Flórez introduced by Dawn French, who also plays a cameo role in the show. To all those of you who were who were unable to see a performance during last January's sell-out 'hot-ticket' run, then this is your chance. It's absolutely hilarious.

Not to be missed. It was excellent.

I agree, it was fantastic. The camerawork was great too - with a real sense of being there at the ROH. The best thing on TV in months.

We need more of the same - and some carefully chosen televised plays too. (The argument goes that theatre shows do not transfer well to the small screen, but I can think of many that would. War Horse, for example.)

Hi, I don't suppose anyone recorded this opera. my parents watched some of it but their TV failed and they are desperate to see the rest! If you can help, I would be most grateful, jonss@f2s.com Thanks and a Happy New Year 8¬)

Sorry, we can't record digital yet - we'll have to get that sorted this year.

I agree, Job, the camera work was great and I thought the voiceover comments from Dawn French during the curtain were really amusing - exactly the sort of fun, accessible idea that could attract more people to opera. The staging was delightful - and the chorus unusually droll. Loved the leads as well. Yes, more please.

I read that it should be released on DVD in the Spring. Have to say that watching it on TV didn't do it justice. It was one of the most enjoyable performances I have ever attended. After, Natalie Dessay & Juan Diego Flórez sat at a table in the bookshop & signed programmes etc. They were delightful.

Thanks for your replies, afraid it is not available on BBC download, will have to wait for the DVD to come out, fingers crossed!

In the meantime, if anyone has a copy, please let me know if you are prepared to let me have one for my folks, jonss@f2s.com

Many thanks and Happy New Year!
