So when , where. I usually go for Edgar except the please don't take me there, ever, play at the National out of which I walked, first walk out in over 20 years. me and half the audience that is. Title erased from my hard drive.

By the way, what's with the cute numbers - you expect me to be able to enter dancing coloured numbers after a night out, eh? You hated my password..

I have always found David Edgar to be more of a dogmatist than a dramatist and to compound my view I read this load of nonsense from him apropos David Mamet et al on this Saturday just gone.

Testing the echo? Why not indeed, it's bound to be a big one given the hollowness inside Mr Edgar's head.

And a former Guardian columnist, whom Edgar names in his piece, shows the folly of his thinking:

I thought this play had some interesting, thought-provoking things to say about the nature of British citizenship and the way we view ourselves as opposed to the way those from other countries view us. The posed question - what does it mean to be British? - was explored with humour and intelligence. The staging was very dynamic, bringing to mind Dominic Cooke's excellent Noughts and Crosses. The actors were truly fantastic, slipping from one character to another and from one accent to another with a graceful ease which was never at any time confusing. I thoroughly enjoyed this play which makes no concessions. You have to pay attention unlike some other plays I've seen recently where I've drifted off, woken up and found the action hasn't moved on one iota (Harper Regan anyone?). Highly recommended.

The theatre was only half full which was a shame. This play deserves a bigger audience.
