Saw it last night and didn't enjoy it at all. Whilst there are some really beautiful visual moments I thought the acting and the direction left a lot to be desired. I wasn't the only one, a lot of the audience didn't seem impressed by it.

Hopefully though it will improve during previews. I'm seeing the final one, next Monday.

I'm sure it'll improve, it had a lot of promise, so I hope you enjoy it next week, Backdrifter.

I saw it last night... interesting production and some great surprises! But alot I didn't understand. Also the BIGGEST problem for me was (I don't watch plays alot... this is the first time watching a play at the Lyttleton, I only saw Caroline there) I sat 3rd row at the Circle and most of the lines were quite inaudible!... esp the daughter who was crazy and all scared and running around... she was quiet enough and they had to have actors walking on and offstage which was very noisy and about 97% of her lines were missed. I thought the Hecuba was good but wasn't AMAZING. I did not understand the sand business and also the pregnant woman walking backwards and all those SING SING SING dance moves (there was one point, I was too into the music, I wanted to dance like in Fosse tongue.gif ).

Anyway, I loved the effects and the stage and the ending was WOW! Certainly did not expect THAT!

Hmmm, interesting Felix... you've thrown up a few intriguing-sounding nuggets there. I'm looking forward to seeing it Monday. And maybe giving Canteen RFH a second try.

Oh by the way I had been about to ask if they went into slow-motion at any point, but in fact I'll wait and see for myself, so don't tell me.

I quite agree Felix, the cast's projection was awful! I missed a lot of the dialogue, and I felt so sorry for the elderly couple behind me who kept asking what had been said.

The effects and ending were fantastic though.

Inaudibility in the circle, sand business, actors noisily hurrying on and off stage, dance moves, walking backwards...

...sounds like all the elements are in place for some truly signature Mitchell.

Bring it on.

I know its onto everyone and different ppl have different interpretations but I just wish the director could have written more about his/her take on the play and what some of the things meant cuz I was quite confused, not by the plot but by some directions... and what is with the gate opening from the audiences? why is it only that time do the women speak to us but never the queen? and what is behind that gate that the women had to speak their minds? And also, why did Helen start drawing a circle on her stomach in the 2nd floor?

And one question, is the lift ACTUALLY a lift? or do the actors use the stair and something comes down to make it look like a lift?

Being inaudibile in the circle is simply unprofessional - I wonder why she doesn't mike all the actors (as used to be done to almost deafening volume during Trevor Nunn productions at NT).
