I generally really loved this piece unlike the few press pieces I have so far read.

Susan Graham is astounding, I couldn't take my eyes off her. The rest of the cast I really liked. Paul Groves was excellent and I think will go really quite far.

Generally I really loved the production. The opening ten minutes was one of the best pieces of opera I think I have ever seen, such a scary nightmare was presented. Further nightmare sequences were done to dramatic effect with Simon Keenlyside literally crawling up walls. The one factor I really didn’t enjoy was the positioning of the chorus off stage, not only did they sound poor but it just looked dam right odd.
“The staff are really exited too. Everyone’s giving me a little, doing a little that, when I walk past in the corridor, eyebrow raise thing, when usually they look away.”

I couldn't understand the lukewarm response from the critics either. I loved the production and was overwhelmed by Susan Graham. Re Paul Groves - He has already gone pretty far but mainly in the States (unfortunately)

Loved this production so much. I go regularly to Covent Garden (always cheap seats!) and this is one of the best productions I've seen - intelligent, beautifully acted and sung (especially by SG and the wonderful Simon Keenlyside)). Personally, I even loved the chorus offstage - it really felt to me like we were hearing voices in Iphigenie's head at points when they sang in the first act.

Highly recommended.

I can only add to the chorus of how great this production was. Perhaps that it wasn't cheerful enough for some critics liking, but then greek tragedies rarely are, other than that I really can't see how it can get such a lukewarm response.

I loved the very claustrophobic set and the way it changed towards the end. Excellent production, even better singing. The orchestra wasn't at its hottest, but that is a relatively small niggle.
