That is certainly news to Idina who 2 weeks ago said she would love to be considered for a movie of Wicked if it were ever done but such a movie, based on the musical rather than the book, would not get made for many many years because of disputes between the studio and Stephen Schwartz.

do you not think that the wicked should be left as it is, and not turned into a film? It just sounds a stramge idea to me

Any stranger than the Wizard of Oz? Why is it stranger than a film of any other musical?

zsorry, i didn't explain my self properly. i just think that wicked is the fine that way it is, and i don't think a film version will be any better than the stage show is, by which i mean, i think the film will be crap un like the show

A movie has the potential to make an awful lot of money with set costs of the producton, and no running costs the way a live show does. If Universal think they will make enough money from a movie to be worth it, then they will! After the success of High School Musical, musical films seem to be a good bet, especially something like Wicked which appeals to a younger audience than, say, Phantom of the Opera.

A film never manages to capture the magic of a live performance, however it can work as a great advert for the real thing!

Any change of genre can ruin something. You can't take something from one medium to another unchanged, and often the changes destroy whatever it was that made the original successful in the first place. It doesn't always happen that way, and sometimes a new version of something can be an improvement, but more often than not the result is an artistic failure, if not a financial one.

Of course, with money to be made all notions of artistic integrity go out the window. Bratz, The Musical anyone?
In my opinion anyone interested in improving himself should not rule out becoming pure energy.

What is the problem with the studio? Surely the people who have bankrolled his biggest hit could do nothing wrong? The amount of money he could make from it is crazy...

I don't think a film of it could ever be as good as a live show but I don't see it being an issue if they did, I also wouldn't be surprised if they made one after it being such a big success.

In terms of it ruining a live show I think it depends on the show in my opinion the film of Chicago is much better than the stage show but I think with Wicked it just wouldn't be the same it just has such a wow factor when it is live.
