I'm visiting London at the end of November and will be taking in a week's worth of shows. So far I have booked three in advance. Two are opening in October so I wanted to book in advance to ensure I got good seats when they will be quite popular. The third show is closing (I'm going to the last night) so I had to book in advance to make sure I got a seat.

However I'm a member of Ticketmaster Priority and they offer discounts to shows (and I've found a few other sites that do the same) but in most cases the offers are only for a short period of time and I don't know if the shows I want to see will be included in the offers (one has just been on offer for a couple of months but I don't know if there will be another offer before I go down to London). So my dilemma is should I wait and hope that the shows I want to see come up for offer or just book in advance and pay the full ticket price?

I am aware of TKTS but I don't like the idea of buying tickets on the day in case I don't get good seats and the show I want to see might not be on offer.

It would help if you told us which shows you are interested in seeing.

And who could see that the road would twist

Cabaret and Spamalot are definates. Possibly Fiddler On The Roof although I'd rather see Boeing Boeing (although I don't know if it's going to extend beyond 20th October.

I'm a big advocate of discounted day tickets, but if you really want to see a specific show, you probably ought to buy it in advance.

Saying that, you have a long time before you go- why not check out the tkts website (every day) for a couple of weeks, see how frequently Spamalot, Cabaret and Boeing Boeing come up for day-sale. If it's fairly regularly, especially now (height of tourist season), you ought to be OK in November, especially having given the shows a couple more weeks.

angelfan, Cabaret, Boeing Boeing & Fiddler have been regularly available at the TKTS booth for some weeks. I think you can take a risk as none of these shows are sold out so, even if you can't get the tickets at TKTS you will still be able to get them at the theatre itself on the day. I'm not sure about Spamalot. Enjoy.

How do you know what seats will be availablt at TKTS? I like to sit in the front stalls.

Ticketmaster has recently had Cabaret tickets for half price but it was only for performances up until last week. They currently have half price tickets for Fiddler but only for performances from tomorrow until 13th September. I don't know what the likelihood is that these shows will be on special offer again for when I'm in London. I still don't know if Boeing Boeing is going to extend beyond 20th October. Is it likely to extend or is it definately closing on 20th October?

You can't find out what will be available, but you can get an idea- if a show comes up every day on the website, chances are it will be on sale o the day you want to go. (www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/tkts)

Then you probably ought to book ahead- I've never been sold a particularly bad day seat (actually, I have, but that was only because I was being cheap), but you do have to take what you're given, which will be the best they have available- there is no choice whatsoever with TKTS, or (as far as I'm aware) any of the discount ticket agents around Leicester Square.

Hope you have a good trip!

That's why I've never used them. However as I've been saying there are offers on Ticketmaster, Last Minute.com and even on this site but I don't know if the shows I want to see will come under offer again.

It is true that there is no choice from TKTS, but having said that I have NEVER had a bad seat from them. Almost every time I have got tickets for the front stalls.

Cabaret had a lot of offers on a few weeks ago - I saw it for £17-50 on a WoS offer - but these seem to have dried up now. If I were you I would wait and see if any new offers are announced and if not go to TKTS in Leicester Square. It is doing well but NOT selling out.

IF Boeing-Boeing extends then I would anticipate that there will be offer announced.

I would definitely recommend using TKTS - for shows that you know have short term availability.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I think I will wait a bit and see if any of them come up on offer again.
