I was very saddened to hear of the death of John Normington, one of this country's most superb character actors. I know his work from television, primarily through his involvement with 'Doctor Who'. He appeared in the show twice during the 1980s, delivering one of the very finest guest performances in the entire run of the programme as the evil Morgus in 'The Caves of Androzani' (1984). I also admire his performance as retired hangman Sidney Bliss in 'The New Statesman'. His recent appearance in 'Torchwood' was very fine and moving. I was never lucky enough to see him on stage but I'm aware of his extensive stage work, including his acclaimed appearance in the recent revival of 'The Entertainer'.
He'll be missed by many.
