ANYONE CAN WHISTLE, a musical by Stephen Sondheim, is now running at the Jermyn Street, playing to sold-out houses and enthusiastic audiences.
It's a period production and there are a lot of costumes for the 14 actors. They are a lovely and very experienced and professional company, but it's become clear after the first week of the run that some help is going to be needed to keep the costumes in a really good state.
The main jobs involved are:
- Washing costumes (not every day by any means - but there are costumes which need some handwashing, and others which would need taking home and washing at home as the theatre doesn't have a washing machine)
- Mending costumes (normal things like putting on buttons, repairing tears, sewing things up again). Lots of the costumes are made to look like 'rags' for peasants, so that means they can be a bit prone to needing repairs!
- Being around to help actors with costume problems.
We'd ideally like someone who can come in every day, but you needn't necessarily stay for the whole show. You could for instance come in about 6.30pm before the show, and then leave at the interval around 8.30pm some nights - or at the end of the show if you are taking costumes home to wash. Some days there might be not much to do - but we really need the support of having someone on hand.
It's a big, friendly company, with great stage management who'll be really supportive, and it would be a really enjoyable job for the right person - still leaving you free to earn money / study during the daytimes.
Shows are Tues - Sat at 7.30pm, and Sat and Sun at 3.30pm.
As we're already running, quick applications welcome!
