Could this be the amongst the worst casting ever? Or will he surprise us all and be marvellous?
I'm willing to give the boy a chance.
Any thoughts?

The stunt casting in "Chicago" is now beyond shameful! And to think this production originated with Henshall, Lemper, Goodman, Planer and Johnson. Time to stop.. my theatre fan says 'hmm, not sure, but this might finally persuade me to see chicago'

Hear Hear Sebastian!
It's not a case of not giving him a chance, it's just that the show has clearly had its day, and this celebrity casting bulls**t (and of course the celebs only ever do about 8 weeks at the most) is a tired effort to try and drag in the tourists and groupies. I saw Chicago quite some time ago, ostensibly because a friend was MDing that night, and I quite liked it (the costumes may have coloured my opinion somewhat) but there is plenty else in the West End that is newer and fresher. This constant changing of the lead roles to accomodate the latest unemployed soap actor is becoming farcical. When I saw it "nasty nick" was in it; it was without doubt the worst performance I think I've seen in musical theatre. On top of the fact that I could barely understand his growling speaking voice, he couldn't sing for toffee, and actually screwed up one of the songs so badly in its timing that he had to stop the band, apologise to the audience and start again!!!! If it hadn't have been so hilarious I would have been annoyed.
Apropros of nothing much, my favourite bit of the show was the beginning when a girl entered the stage wearing less material than could be shorn from a hamster, and the audience immediately (and somewhat reverently) went from a loud buzz of chatting to a hushed silence - all except for my mum who leaned over to me and in a stage whisper loud enough I'm sure to have been heard in the Gods said, "Ooh, she's not wearing much , is she?". Love you, mum.

Not willing to give him a chance Sebastian?
If you mean will I be going to see how he pans out the answer is no. But that's more because there are more than enough new things to see without going back to see the umpteenth cast of "Chicago". I have to say my wish that it would close is not entirely un-self centred since the performing rights will never be released while it's still playing in town.. Sebastian
