Just wondering if anyone knew what this year's summer musical is going to be? I have never been to the Watermill, althouh I have admired their work. What's the theatre like in comparison to the Donmar or the Menier?

Copacabana will be the summer music theatre production opening on 15 July at The Watermill, directed by Craig Revel Horwood with Sarah Travis as musical arranger and director and Diego Pitarch designing the show. Booking isn't open yet but keep checking The Watermill website www.watermill.org.uk for information.

To answer the rest of your question.

It's a beautiful little Theatre set in a wonderful location. Production quality is on a par with Donmar and Menier (personally I think the best productions in the UK). CRH does wonders with Actor-Muso and casting is always spot on. Definitely take the time to take a trip down to Newbury. But book fast, the musicals sell out VERY quickly!

I take a 3 hour drive twice for each run I love it so much!

She was good in Sunset Boulevard! Copa Cobana wouldn't have been my first choice probably, but it will still be interesting. It's a definite go see.

And just to emphasise the point, it is indeed a really lovely theatre in a lovely setting by a stream. It really was a watermill, after all, and the wheel and rushing water are still there to admire as you walk through. It has something of a medieval flavour about it too, which is very appealing.

The audience is situated predominently in front though, rather than to the sides, although there is a wooden balcony and balastrade above with a single row of seats right over the stage. It's really worth a visit whatever is on.
