Off to New York next week and been trying to book on the internet via Ticketmaster US for "The Adaams Family". No choice but to go via TM as they handle the box office for the Lunt Fontanne Theatre.

Seems I can't book and choose the option "international will call" (collect from the box office) because they do not sell tickets to anyone outside of the USA and Canada within 10 days of a performance! Sound crazy? I think so! The text from the TM website below confirms it.

<H4 class=sectionHead>International Will Call for US Events</H4>If you order tickets to a U.S. event and you have a billing address that is outside of the United States and Canada, then you may be obligated to use international will call and may have to place your order at least 10 days prior to the event. You must provide an email address, along with a local telephone number where you can be contacted up to the day of the event. Tickets will be held in will call at the venue box office where the event will take place

There is an option to print out your tickets but again this is not available to anyone outside of the US or Canada!

So that means I lose out, the show loses out, the producers loose out, TM (supposedly?) lose out, but I can't understand TM's policy decision? I have to present my credit card at the box office to collect via "will call", the details are checked online and authorisation from the credit card company must be given, so what gives?

I wonder if Ticketmaster UK adopt the same policy? If so, then many west end shows are in danger of losing business, just like the one's on Broadway. I can get a a great seat online but can't pay for it? If I hadn't had the soon to be BA strike hanging over my departure next week then I would have booked in advance, but why can't I book online even on the day of the performance if seats are available?

I know, I remember this problem from when we went to NY. Weird innit? Such a problem with credit card fraud I suppose.
Enjoy the trip and see if you can discover a way round this while you are there and report back.

Just going on the same sort of line, Im going to New York in the summer and was wondering does this policy just apply if you book within 10 days of the event??
Just wondering that if I booked like now'ish for a trip in June that I can still pick up tickets when I get there. Any help would be appreciated.

No. I recently booked to see Wicked on Broadway in July and had the same problem. I understand them not wanting to ship the tickets abroad but I have to say, the description of the "will call" is not very clear and it took me a few times reading it to understand what it was. I'm pretty sure it's just them saving the tickets and not posting them to you and then you pick them up when you get there.

I used the Ticketmaster US Booking Line with will call when I saw Wicked on Broadway last Easter. All was fine when I did it?

Yes but try booking online (which is the most used). It doesnt work within 10 days of the show. I dont want to have to phone the USA, get held in a queue, I did it last time, cost me a fortune on the phone.

Credit card fraud is rife in all walks of life, but TM are in the ticket selling business and if you cant buy a ticket then TM have no business! If the card is authorised by the credit card company and the card is seen on collection of the ticket, whats the problem? I am not trying to contact a friend in NY to ask if they will buy the ticket for me with their credit card and I'll pay them back when I get there. In the meantime, the lovely seat i want to book will probably get sold!

Having been to Broadway twice, both times we were dissatisfied with the ticket allocation made available online. May I suggest if you're bothered where you sit (for shows you're paying full price for) call the main box office number. (add international dialling code and explain you're calling from the U.K). They can organise will call in person, express USPS mail or e-tickets if required (if the person you're speaking to WANTS to - it took us three tries with different telephone agents).

The box offfice number is NOT the box office, its Ticketmaster (same as in most theatres here and the UK, you are unlikely to get to speak to the actual box office). I have no problem in finding the right seat allocation online, thats my preferred choice, I can look at the seats on the plan and if I like them, then I book it. My point is why can I phone Ticketmaster (the box office) be able to book on the phone with a credit card but not online when the majority of sales these days made made that way - it saves on costs and can be done at your leisure. I dont want to pay further fes on the phone. British Airways encourage net bookings and if you phone them you pay an extra £15 per person. If other companies can do it, why cant Tickemaster?
