Thank you! If you go will you let me know what it's like? Hopefully I can make it up there myself.

Would love to see this play but went to the box office and encountered the rudest and most unhelpful and sarcastic box office clerk I have encountered in over 30 years of theatre going, a blonde middle aged woman,I guess she isn't alone in London Theatres with her attitude but on the whole most are adequate, but this particular person should be given training quickly by Nimax or never allowed any contact with the public again.

That's really bad! Have you complained about her?

Complained about what ? It would be helpful to have some idea about the manner in which this lady managed to get on your wrong side !

and isn't rude, unhelpful and sarcastic enough to complain about!
Box Office's should be inviting and friendly when wanting to part you with so much money these but sadly very few are like this which is very sad.

I really don't agree. I find most Box Office operatives charming and helpful. It might also be worth considering that they are frequently the first line of defence against rude (Haven't you got someone who knows what they are doing?), pushy (I can get you fired from your job!), vacillating (Have you got better seats on another day? (for the sixth time), ignorant (can we sit anywhere?) and stupid (You can't be sold out! My child is in this show and I haven't bought my tickets yet!) customers. I have heard people being so rude to our BO staff that one just gasps in disbelief!

You obviously work or have worked in a box office and looking from a very biased position,I am a customer and disgree with you on the whole and has seen many London box offices treating people who don't deserve it with utter contempt and are they to do a job and the examples you give are nothing and shouldn't bother them and they are getting paid to do a job and why shouldn't customers ask questions as I have caught out many box office staff giving poor tkts saying best they have and with the magic of an iPhone to to them better are available!Such fun watching them squirm!
In an industry that is finding it tough box office staff should go out of there way to sell tickets politely and not be so damn awkward but I think they don't give a toss and eventually will get what they deserve the sack!

Wish I had a pound for every time I'd heard that Seb!! rolleyes.gif What I'd like to say is "Look you stupid cow you have been taking your child to rehearsals for three months, the tickets have been on sale for two months and now the day before the show you think that the best (or any) tickets will be sitting here waiting for you?" BUT of course I don't because that would just be rude and we all know that it's only the customers who are allowed to be abusive wink.gif
Last years panto was a classic, a very loud woman came to collect non-existant tickets from the box office (turned out she'd booked for the previous week and her mother had had them). Luckily my manager was on duty and he is a very patient guy and went out to deal with her where he was yelled at by this harridan that she "was Jack's (Beanstalk) mother and if she didn't get a ticket then she would pull her daughter from the show!" (The daughter was nineteen so like that was going to happen!). He defused the situation and eventually we had to move ushers out of seats to give this ghastly woman a seat. He is a pretty laidback guy but he came back to the office quite shaken by the whole scene that had taken place in the foyer.

vacillating (Have you got better seats on another day? (for the sixth time)

I'm afraid I'm guilty of that one! However nearly all the box office staff I've ever encountered have been very patient, polite and helpful.

West: I doubt very much that its the box office staff themselves who decide not to offer the best tickets. If that's what their boss tells them to do, they'll do it. Actually, you know what? Maybe they're just doing it purely to annoy you, because p*ssing off customers is such a great idea? Yes, that sounds likely, doesn't it? rolleyes.gif

And just out of interest, if you enjoy annoying them so much ("Such fun watching them squirm!"), what makes you think they should be polite to you?

You are obviously a really nice person aren't you?! And, for your information, No I don't work in a box office. I am a Technical Manager but that doesn't stop me being sick and tired of people like you thinking it's ok to be rude to people who can't answer back!
Alles klar?

Seb

PS we are all customers at some point and you get the respect that you deserve!
