i saw it on friday - it was fabulous! even better than in the west end. the girl playing anne was tremendous - she had the immaturity of the character with a silly giggling voice which whilst she was good jessie buckley didnt have
alexander hanson certainly held his own against the two divas!
on playbill they publish the weekly grosses - last week little night sold out to 100.6% capacity (the excess over 100 for standing room) and it took $12,000 more than West Side Story which is on in a theatre twice the size!
they are going to need to remain west 48th between broadway and 9th - menier street because come march la cage will be playing on one side of the street at the longacre and little night on the other side of the street at the walter kerr
how many small scale venues which recieve no public subsidy is as internationally renowned now as the chocolate factory?? none!
Amazing achievement for the Chocolate Factory, they've come from nowhere fast. Hope someone's got the wisdom to record how they went about this - although alchemy can't easily be repeated it's certainly worth theatre managers/students studying what they got so right!
In the interests of balance I should point out that critical reception has been distinctly mixed although everybody liked Angela. Many critics were lukewarm about the production and the remaining cast (asp CZJ)
That's good it's doing so well, and there's often quite a difference between what the critics enjoy and what audiences enjoy, but this seems to be on quite level grounding with a few exceptions. I really wish I could go and see it!
