A poor year overall. Ones I really enjoyed were:

King Lear (Young Vic)
Time & the Conways (NT)

Also good:

All's Well (NT)
Phedre (NT)
Life's A Dream (Donmar)

Worst for many reasons Mrs Affleck (NT). Antony Sher "Tempest" was bad too.

I don't wish to patronise you but TOTS is a totally insane choice for a first opera exoerience especially as I am assuming you were not able to prepare for it. It is, in my opinion, one of the masterpieces of opera but it is not an easy listen especially if you have no previous experience in the artform.
I would recommend Boheme, Tosca or Carmen for a first foray into the genre. I would also advise reading the libretto and listening to some of the music beforehand. Opera is not an art form that you can just parachute into but, if you do the prep, it can give you an artistic experience which outweighs anything else I have experienced.

Hehe I kind of gathered it was not going to be a very first-time-opera friendly after the first five minutes or so. I did get something out of it though and appreciated the performances. I went on the basis of a very good last minute ticket offer.

Carmen is on my hit list though for my next one. If I can get tickets at an affordable price smile.gif.
