Recently it was announced that the historic Blackpool Opera House had joined a 10 venue list as being in such a shoddy and dangerous condition that demolition was 'On The Cards'.
So dangerous was the building that The Royal Variety Show has just played there.
The Opera House has been receiving an annual grant of £1m - WHERE HAS IT ALL GONE?
Over the past few years 5th rate acts, foul-mouthed 'so called comedians' and 3rd rate shows have been booked there while in fact the theatre has been 'Dark' more often than not.
2 years ago the local council informed me in answer to a letter of mine that indeed demolition was possible, with a Conference Centre replacing it.
Maybe now the Council should take the theatre back, put in a real theatre management to run it and make sure the £1m grant is spent on it and to demand that those previous £ms should be refunded immediately. Maybe the Council and the theatre management should be more truthful and a Public Enquiry be instigated.
Unbelievably, through the Royal Variety Show, a certain Peter Kay announced that Blackpool was 'The Entertainment Capital Of The World' what absolute rubbish, simply showing his ignorance. Second and third rate so called entertainment in Blackpool now is the norm and is simply shameful.
I have just received the new brochure from the Grand Theatre, other than the second rate Bill Kenwright productions there is nothing.
May I suggest you stay away from this appalling town and can I ask that the last one to leave, please turn out the lights.
