Welcome Dave!
I became a member earlier this year. I paid £30 for the membership and a couple of days later got free * tickets to see Defending the Caveman whose tickets should have cost £36.
Since then I have taken advantage of many group outings which have included a cheaper ticket, free drink and free programme. I have found the outings good value as far as discounted seats go for the West end shows. The free * tickets that you get for the fringe have been great as the productions on the whole have been very good and have opened up the whole new world of Fringe/ Off West End to me. I I have always been a supporter of local/ regional shows but never before ventured to the fringe ones.
Some of the outings include "mingling" with the cast. This can be a bit daunting depending how good you are at mixing with complete stangers.
As with all new people you meet- some you take to more than others and West End Wendies are no different. Some have them have been really easy and normal to chat to- some are pained and are obviously mixing with us "plebs" under duress and do not employ their acting skills to hide the fact.
Fortunately my secret weapon is that my usual companion is "in the Business" so invariably knows one of the directors or MD;s etc so the mingling process is less awkward.
Hope this helps- credit crunch permitting I will be renewing next year.
Having said all this I do shop around for other forms of discounts before I buy and dont rely soley on WOS for my theatre tickets.

Hi, that's great.
Thanks very much for the info'.
The West End Wendy comment made me laugh. What is one of those?!
The mingling with the cast sounds interesting but also, like you said, rather daunting. I'm a registered psychiatric nurse so don't know anything about this world - I could help them if they were so stressed they needed relaxation techniques before a performance but not much more! I'd probably come across as a right dork probably asking questions they've answered thousands of times before..........."What's it like working with......,"............"It must be awesome when you get a standing ovation".......etc etc !!!
What sort of people go to these outings-mainly drama people? I know zero about acting etc, just admire and love to watch the performances and love a good singing voice. What age group is it generally and do people mainly live in London or do they travel?
I have to admit to loathing amateur theatre, but I don't think fringe is that is it?
Wish I had a friend "in the business"! All mine wouldn't sit through a musical if they were being paid to!
Sorry about all the questions!
Thanks again, really appreciate your advice.
