Burn the Floor returns to Shaftesbury from 6 March 2013

Latin and ballroom dance show Burn the Floor is returning to the Shaftesbury Theatre from 6 March to 1 September 2013, following the closure of Rock of Ages on 6 January (as {reported by Whatsonstage.com yesterday).

The run will star Strictly Come Dancing professionals Robin Windsor and Kristina Rihanoff, alongside 16 other dancers.

And the show’s latest residency may not be its last – at a Whatsonstage.com Q&A during the first run in 2010, producer Harley Medcalf indicated he was keen to bring the show to the West End at least “once a year” as part of its ongoing international schedule.

First conceived as a special performance at Elton John‘s 50th birthday
celebration in 1997, two years later Burn the Floor made its world premiere
in the UK (in Bournemouth) and has since played in over 30 countries, including a run on Broadway.

From NYC’s Harlem, where dances such as the Lindy, Foxtrot and
Charleston were born, to the Latin Quarter where the Cha-Cha, Rumba and
Salsa steamed up the stage, Burn the Floor
takes audiences on a journey through the passionate drama of dance. The
elegance of the Viennese Waltz, the exuberance of the Jive, the
intensity of the Paso Doble, as well as the Tango, Samba, Mambo,
Quickstep, and Swing.

Burn the Floor is the latest of a series of shows to announce West End returns. On Monday (1 October) Midnight Tango announced a limited run at the Phoenix Theatre in February, and yesterday Dreamboats and Petticoats announced a surprise West End return (to Wyndham’s Theatre) only two months after closing at the Playhouse.
