About This Show

Broadcasts directly from the National Theatre, Royal Opera House and other famous theatres around the world onto a big screen. Broadcasts may be of live performances or “Encore” screenings of previous famous productions recorded “as live”.

These two short Italian operas are each regarded as the composers’ masterpiece. Award-winning director Damiano Michieletto brings them together in a new staging, setting both in a poverty stricken village in 1980s southern Italy, where the Mafia has a hold. Royal Opera Music Director Antonio Pappano conducts a cast that includes charismatic Dutch soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek, exciting Italian soprano Carmen Giannattasio and Aleksandrs Antonenko.
