The ancient story. Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, first performed in 1689, is inspired by Virgil’s account of the myth which follows the burgeoning love of Aeneas, a Trojan prince, and the Queen of Carthage.Pitlochry Festival Theatre and Scots Opera Project unite to produce a Scottish Gaelic and Scots Language version of Purcell’s baroque masterpiece, Dido and Aeneas.
