The trio formed in 1970 from two rival bands- guitarist [Billy Gibbons] came from Moving Sidewalks; and drummer [Frank Beard] and bassist [Dusty Hill] came from American Blues. They built up support across America with their first two albums, ‘ZZ Top’s First Album’ and ‘Rio Grande Mud’, and baked it up with constant touring. Major success followed with their third album, the gold-selling ‘Tres Hombres’, in 1973. They built on this success throughout the 1970s, culminating in a mammoth 18 month world tour featuring rattlesnakes, buzzards, a long-horn steer and a buffalo! The hit singles and albums kept rolling in – 1983’s multi-platinum ‘Eliminator’ (which stayed in the US charts for 135 weeks!) spawned ‘Gimme All Your Lovin’, ‘Sharp Dressed Man’ and ‘Legs’.
