Influential jazz guitarist John McLaughlin reactivates his electric fusion quartet 4th Dimension, featuring keyboardist Gary Husband, bassist Etienne Mbappe and drummer Ranjit Barot.
From his work with Miles Davis in his ground-breaking fusion era to his landmark projects such as Mahavishnu and Shakti, and his collaborations with Al Di Meola, Paco de Lucia, Carlos Santana and Zakir Hussain, John McLaughlin paved the way for jazz-rock fusion. He’s been one of the defining voices of the guitar over the past five decades, constantly refreshing his sound exploring into blues, flamenco, and Indian music.
When McLaughlin initiated the 4th Dimension project in 2010, it marked his return to the style of electric fusion that he helped to pioneer. They’re a heavy-hitting, groove-focused ensemble, with rollicking percussion providing the perfect foundation for McLaughlin’s breakneck, high-octane, fuzz-toned fretwork.
